Adventures 2019: Maria Patricia Tinajero
My name is Maria Patricia Tinajero. I am an artist and philosopher with a background in business and finance.
My creative works, promoting environmental and social awareness, explore the porosity of limits as interphases for creative encounters that traverse reality and fantasy. My latest installation, I_Legal (2018) uses paper as the first technology that allows global mobilization of ideas, a kind of global immigration that explores the connections among art, history, politics and the environment.
My emphasize is on place and community through social practices and environmental actions. My individual practice is informed by my eighteen-years of collaboration with Argentinian artists Ariadna Capasso and Damian Keller. As a collective, they view creativity as an inherently participatory process that is exemplified through their working cycle.
They start by exchanging ideas using web technologies to support discussions. Then, the process materializes in the artwork, letting relationships among materials emerge through ongoing exchanges. Their focus centers on pressing environmental issues that are seemingly disconnected, such as consumerism in the megalopolis and the deforestation of the Amazon Rain Forest. Their work has been exhibited at the Denver Museum of Contemporary Art, Casa de La Cultura Ecuatorina, and Listasaf Reyjanesbeajar, Reykjanes Art Museum, Iceland.
